about

In early 2014 The Tiger Lillies premiered their new show Lulu - A Murder Ballad, inspired by Frank Wedekind's “Lulu” plays Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box. Commissioned and produced by Opera North, the show features a whole new cycle of songs and stunning virtual sets by Mark Holthusen, who's directed and created the visuals for most of the band's recent shows, including critically acclaimed Rime of The Ancient Mariner. In conjunction with the show's premiere the band will release the album Lulu – A Murder Ballad, containing 17 brand new Tiger Lillies' songs and a twisted cover version of Cole Porter's classic “My Heart Belongs to Daddy”.

A tragic victim of patriarchy or a female avenger set to destroy all males that cross her way? Either way, Lulu is one of the most interesting characters of 20th century fiction. Her unbridled sex appeal, her youth and her self-destructiveness combine to make her dangerous, unpredictable and tragic. This new Tiger Lillies' album explores the tragic life and controversial personality of Lulu and the equally intriguing as well as disturbing characters surrounding her: her pimp, her many clients and husbands, her murderer. With the men (and the women) who circle her, Lulu’s journey from street prostitute to the toast of Society and back again, is told as a hypnotic and kaleidoscopic dance of death. The Tiger Lillies' songs follow Lulu from Berlin to Paris and finally the dark alleys of London where she meets her end at the hands of her last customer: the infamous Jack the Ripper.
